Supporting Conservation and Biodiversity Across England
Discover how the British Farmland Bird of Prey Initiative helps landowners enhance raptor populations and farmland biodiversity. From the initial survey to reporting to the National Biodiversity Network, we will build and site a nest box and visit the box twice a year for maintenance and recording. Our proven services are tailored to support both wildlife and your land management goals.
Nest Box Surveys
We assess your land to identify optimal locations for raptor nest boxes, maximizing breeding success and supporting local bird populations. If you only want one box for a Barn Owl or six baskets for Long Eared Owls, we can help.
Raptor & Habitat Surveys
We can conduct surveys of birds of prey and their habitats, providing valuable insights to inform your conservation efforts. Using various methods, including mammal trapping, we will be able to advise how you can maximise your land without compromising yield for raptors.
Nest Box Installations
We offer professional installation of high-quality nest boxes to encourage successful breeding and long-term raptor populations. Built from sustainable, high quality, marine-grade plywood, our boxes are built to last.
Landowner Support & Guidance
Receive dedicated support on enhancing your land for raptors and wider farmland biodiversity, from practical tips to advice regarding Natural England and the Rural Payments Agency grants for boxes.
Swifts Need Homes!
Although not raptors, Swifts return to the UK year and year, but now, with lack of breeding sites as old buildings are knocked down and many new buildings having no provision for them, they are endangered and have become a Red listed bird. We want to help them and are now building Swift boxes which will be ready for shipping as the birds arrive.
Why Raptor Conservation Matters on Farmland
Birds of prey play a crucial role in maintaining healthy farmland ecosystems across England. As natural pest controllers, raptors help manage rodent populations and support the balance of local wildlife.
The British Farmland Bird of Prey Initiative offers expert nest box build and installation, bird and habitat surveys, and ongoing advice tailored for landowners. We will inspect your boxes twice yearly, sending you an illustrated report and sending our findings to the National Biodiversity Network and the British Trust for Ornithology to ensure that conservation efforts benefit both raptors and the wider biodiversity of your land.
By supporting raptor populations through practical measures like nest boxes, landowners can enhance their land’s ecological value, contribute to national conservation goals, and foster a thriving environment for farmland birds and other wildlife.
