Our Services

Birds of prey have a controversial public image and the headline-grabbing statements of Sparrow-hawk’s decimating song birds or similar are not helpful, nor truthful. There is a balance in nature and, yes, songbirds do have predators – but birds of prey are not their worst enemy.

We want to help landowners find that balance to the mutual benefit of the land and of birds of prey, with expertly sited nest boxes for Barn Owls, Tawny Owls, Kestrels and Little Owls, plus baskets for Long-eared Owls and Hobbys – if the habitat is available. The government has a Capital Grant scheme at present covering nest boxes.

Our Process

You may feel you want a single box for a Barn Owl, or two, smaller, Kestrel boxes – or you may want us to come and look at the site you are thinking of an advise you on what would be best suited, which we can do on our first visit to you.

We will then construct the boxes using 18mm and 12mm poplar A/A grade multiply from FSC Certified sustainable sources. The boxes are to a traditional design, modified by Nigel, after years of working with birds of prey and installing and maintaining nest boxes. He understands just what an owl may be looking for in a box – and exactly what a contractor may be looking for in order to maintain and record the box.

We will install the box for you and can either visit the box twice yearly to record the contents and to maintain the box, or you can do this yourself. It is a requirement of a Capital Grant that you record and maintain the box.

If you wish us to record and maintain the box, we send all the recordings to the British Trust for Ornithology and the National Biodiversity Network and send you an illustrated report for your records.

Habitat Surveys

If you are unsure of your requirements and would like us to undertake a habitat survey on part or all of your land, do get in touch. We use Longworth mammal traps for surveying to ascertain the prey on land and can advise on other modifications you may want to install – such a prey-rich margins – to increase biodiversity.

Barn Owl Mitigation

Nigel is very experienced in Barn Owl mitigation and has run courses for Norfolk District Council to guide planners on what they should be looking for.

We can visit your site for a survey, advise you on the mitigation measure we recommend and also write the report for the planning officer to consider.

We have also worked with advice on road construction mitigation and have experience on working with heritage buildings.
